How Much Does a Website Cost in South Africa? What Really Drives the Price
3 October 2026 · 5 min read · By Saydi Barbosa
It's one of the most common questions small businesses ask: how much should a website cost in South Africa? The honest answer is that it depends — but not in a vague way. A few clear factors drive almost every quote, and once you understand them you can compare proposals properly.
What drives the cost
Number of pages and how unique each one is. A five-page site using one layout costs far less than twenty custom-designed pages.
Features. Online booking, an online shop, payment options, member logins or connections to other systems all add time to build and test.
Content. Writing, photography and video are often the hidden part of a website budget. Professional photos and clear copy make a bigger difference to results than almost anything else.
Strategy and SEO. Planning the structure, researching what your customers search for and setting up the site to be found on Google is work — and it's the work that makes the site pay for itself.
The costs people forget
Domain name renewals, hosting, email, ongoing updates and small changes after launch. Ask every supplier what's included after go-live and what costs extra.
Cheap vs. right
The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest website. A site that doesn't bring in enquiries, or has to be rebuilt within two years, ends up costing more. Instead of asking 'what's the lowest price?', ask 'what does this site need to achieve, and what's that worth to my business?'
If you'd like a clear, itemised view of what your website should include, send us your brief. We'll tell you what you need, what can wait, and what isn't worth paying for.
